Chapter 401 - 273: Mi Yin and a Missing Piece of Soul

Qi Yuan sneered. "A natural-born King Beast who occupies the entire Middle East Plain by himself, with a century of accumulated power... How could he possibly die so easily?"

"Didn’t you suffer a loss at his hands as well?"

"My plan was flawless, the trap seamless, but I underestimated his vigilance."

He raised his wrist. A few wisps of black gas floated from his palm before he clenched it into a fist. A look of false grief crossed his face. "As expected of an old fox who’s lived for over a hundred years. So cunning. I lost ten whole Advanced Demon Seeds on this venture and nearly paid with half my life. Still, it’s not like he got off easy."

At this, the black-haired youth laughed again—a brilliant, wild laugh. It seemed that simply knowing his opponent had suffered was enough to bring him joy.

After all, that bastard had tried to kill him with his own hands all those years ago.

Qi Yuan’s expression grew cold. He stoked the campfire, his eyes turning to Mi Yin, who had been distracted the entire time. Qi Yuan’s gaze faltered, then drifted to the space behind him.

——A few messy articles of clothing, seemingly a female’s, with a small mound bulging up from the middle.

"...What exactly are you hiding?"

He reached out to lift the clothes.

The air around Mi Yin instantly changed. SMACK! He slapped Qi Yuan’s hand away. "Don’t touch my things." His previously slack snake tail coiled protectively around the bundle, hiding it deep within his loops as if guarding a priceless treasure from covetous eyes. "I have no interest in the feud between you two. I just want to know if Ze Sheng is dead."

"It’s too difficult to kill a King Beast with brute force alone." Qi Yuan seemed unfazed by the extreme reaction. He settled back against the cold, hard wall, a faint smile playing on his lips. "But this trip wasn’t fruitless. I discovered his power has been diminished."

Mi Yin looked at him.

"With his true strength, seriously injuring me would have been easy. But this time, he was clearly struggling." Qi Yuan mused, "If that crafty old fox wasn’t deliberately hiding his Energy, then... there’s definitely something wrong with his body."

’This will be the perfect opportunity to finish him off.’

Suddenly, the bundle of cloth stirred. Mi Yin’s mind raced, but he kept his expression neutral while dealing with Qi Yuan. His slender fingers lifted the edge of the cloth and slipped inside, touching soft, delicate skin.

A storm crashed through him.

But the next second, the feeling of fluffy fur returned. ’The female’s form seems to be in constant flux, made unstable by some unknown power.’

"I’m tired. I need to rest." Mi Yin shifted into his beast form, coiling into a massive heap. He flicked his crimson forked tongue and began to ruthlessly drive Qi Yuan away. "You should know that I hate having anyone else around when I rest."

"I’m an injured man, and you’re kicking me out? In a thunderstorm this bad? Tsk. Just as I’d expect from a Snake Beast—utterly heartless." Qi Yuan’s tone was teasing, but his smile was inscrutable. His cool gaze swept over the mound tightly encircled by the python’s coils. He took the hint and disappeared, leaving to let his wounds heal.

Once he was sure the man was long gone and his presence had completely vanished, the python’s previously lazy, half-lidded eyes slowly sharpened.

His upper body shifted into human form. He lifted the cloths he had held tightly in the center of his coils, revealing the figure that had driven him mad with longing for the past ten years.

"Jin’er..." A storm of emotion raged in his eyes.

His fingers trembled as he touched her delicate, cool cheek. His voice was hoarse and trembling.

’It’s really her.’

Although her hair color and figure were slightly different from before, her familiar scent and the fatal pull she had on him told him over and over again that the female before him was the mate Mi Yin had desperately sought.

But her condition was far from good.

Her face was flushed, yet her skin was ice-cold to the touch. Her lips were chapped and pale.

It seemed she was developing a fever. Despite her cool skin, her body temperature was showing a faint, unnatural tendency to rise. In her deep slumber, she subconsciously curled into a ball, her body shivering.

A torrential rainstorm raged outside the cave, and the nighttime temperature had dropped below freezing. From the cracks in the cave walls, the faint sound of dripping water echoed. DRIP... DRIP...

The breath of both of them turned into hazy white clouds of mist.

He knew An Jin had never tolerated the cold well.

But Mi Yin couldn’t take her back to the city in these harsh conditions. He could only dress her in the few articles of clothing he had, secretly regretting not having stolen more earlier.

He stoked the campfire again, making the flames burn higher. At the same time, he moved his cold tail closer to the fire. He waited until his scales and the skin beneath them were searing hot before coiling it around her again, acting as a more personal heat source.

When that still wasn’t enough, he shifted into his full beast form. After warming his entire body by the fire, he used his heated underbelly to envelop her completely, leaving only her face exposed to breathe as her complexion gradually returned to a healthy, rosy color.

His snake head nuzzled against hers. His crimson tongue gently licked her somewhat dry lips until they were moist. Only then did Mi Yin rest his head on her chest, remaining perfectly still.

"Mmmh..." There was a sudden movement beneath him. She seemed uncomfortable being so tightly coiled, twisting her body and instinctively snuggling closer to the source of heat—Mi Yin.

She even nuzzled his head subconsciously.

Mi Yin’s heart completely melted. He lifted his head slightly, his glittering, blood-red serpentine eyes fixed on her, unblinking.

The love in his heart, like embers fanned into a blaze, roared back to life—hotter and more fervent than ever before, an irreversible inferno sweeping across a plain.

In a daze, Wamiya felt an all-encompassing warmth pressing against her cold body. ’So comfortable... so warm...’ she thought. As some strength returned to her limbs, she forced her eyes half-open.

An enormous snake head filled her vision.

’My face is all wet... Did it lick me all over?’

Her eyes widened slightly, and a name escaped her lips subconsciously. "...Mi Yin."

The python froze on the spot. Its forked tongue, left hanging in the air, was utterly still. He had even forgotten to retract it.

"Say it again. What’s my name?" He suddenly shifted back to his human form, his hands gripping her shoulders tightly. His tall, powerful frame loomed over her, his eyes scarlet and blazing, his breathing quick and ragged.

...’But he hadn’t told her his name.’

To hear his name from her soft lips again after ten years... It sent a thrill through him so powerful he could barely control himself.

However, her head was spinning from being shaken. Her body, devoid of any Energy to support it, felt as limp as a rag doll. She collapsed weakly against his well-defined chest, propping herself up with her hands. "Mi Yin?"

Her tone was questioning.

To be honest, even she didn’t know what those two words she’d just blurted out meant.

It was like an instinct, a muscle memory that made the name tumble from her lips.

Mi Yin fought to restrain his wild emotions. His hands slid to her waist, then his fingers curled and moved lower. His grip on her thigh was so tight it left behind a red mark.

"Haven’t you realized it yet? She’s missing a part of her Soul."
