Chapter 1427: The Grand Finale (13)
In the castle, the sound of an explosion from the west disturbed Luo Ke from his sleep. When he stepped out of his bedroom, he saw Zhuang Haoxiong angrily shouting at the others, "Go, everyone go catch them! See who escaped—"
Dark Island was impossible for outsiders to find, so this commotion was definitely stirred up by the prisoners held here, just like what happened with Xiao Yebai’s group. Hearing footsteps behind, Zhuang Haoxiong turned back to see Luo Ke nonchalantly saying, "Why did you get up? This small matter can be handled by Hui and me."
"I want to see what Mu is doing," Luo Ke said.
Zhuang Haoxiong clearly didn’t understand, hurriedly leaving him to check the basement. Watching his retreating back, Luo Ke knew he was afraid of losing the fish he had just caught. But was this commotion really just caused by the prisoners in the jail? Luo Ke couldn’t help but feel a bit suspicious.
Zhuang Haoxiong ran to where his brother was detained downstairs. The explosion outside caused quite a stir, affecting the basement. Some prisoners started to get restless. The jailer organized people to maintain order in the prison. Seeing Zhuang Haoxiong come down, the jailer stepped forward and asked, "Why are you down here?"
"I’m just checking on my prisoners." Zhuang Haoxiong said, pinching his nose. The smell here was unbearable even for him. As Zhuang Haoxiong walked forward, the jailer picked up a lamp to light his way.
Reaching the deepest part of the prison, the uneasy sounds from the neighboring Crocodile Pond were audible, making Zhuang Haoxiong frown, "What’s going on here?"
"Maybe they forgot to feed them meat," the jailer replied.
At the prison door, Zhuang Haoxiong looked inside and saw a group of prisoners lying on the ground. Among them was his brother, already half dead, which made him very satisfied. He said, "Take good care. These people must not be lost. You know what to do."
"Yes," the jailer nodded. "If there’s any risk, I’ll press the lever to release the crocodiles. None of the prisoners will escape." Zhuang Haoxiong turned to leave, and the jailer followed him.
The people in the prison opened their eyes in the darkness, looking at each other. They had all heard the commotion above.
Second Monkey whispered into Uncle Qi’s ear, "I dreamt before that my brother came to find me."
Xiaoqi pondered over his words and, holding him, said, "Looks like we need to get ready to leave."
"How do we get out?" Wa Zicong was the first to ask.
Second Monkey reminded Xiaoqi, "He betrayed me before."
Wa Zicong’s face showed a hint of displeasure, "If I really wanted to kill you, would I need someone else to do it?"
The others couldn’t help but chuckle at this. Wa Zicong felt a sense of defeat, frustrated that an adult like him could be so easily provoked by a child’s few words. It was all because this kid reminded him so much of both his mom and dad.
"What do you think we should do?" Xiaoqi asked the child.
Second Monkey said, "Let him carry my aunt. If he’s a good person, he won’t abandon my aunt."
Wa Zicong immediately glared at Monkey several times. Yet, Xiaoqi found the child’s arrangement reasonable. Among the group, Anthony and Zhuang Haoran could barely manage on their own. Xiaoqi himself didn’t have enough strength to carry an adult, at most he could only hold this child. Only Wa Zicong was capable of bringing Xiao Shumei out. Seeing the situation, Wa Zicong conceded. But how would this group escape? They saw when they came in that the jailer and others were keeping a close watch, and there seemed to be only one passage. When a thought suddenly crossed Wa Zicong’s mind, he shuddered involuntarily. Only to hear Xiaoqi say, "Escape through the next door—"
