After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 317: The Commander

Chapter 317: The Commander

A Space Superpower User, covered in bloody bite marks, pulled a small sedan out of his storage space.

But before he could get in, he was shoved aside.

"Get out of my way!"

The Gold Element Superpower User had covered his entire body in metal. Even so, bats clung to any exposed patch of his skin.

He scrambled and crawled into the car.

Others nearby tried to get into the car, but the Gold Element Superpower User shot them down without hesitation!

"Where are the keys?! Give me the keys!"

The Gold Element Superpower User shouted at the Space Superpower User on the ground.

However, the Space Superpower User had already been eaten alive. A bat had even crawled into his wide-open mouth.

"Something seems off about these bats," Nina Jacobs remarked as she watched the scene unfold.

’When are normal bats ever this ferocious?’

"Indeed. I’ve heard that the bats of Mornfell bite people, but not that they eat them." Chase Gallagher and the others agreed, also finding it strange.

"Please, let me in."

The Gold Element Superpower User, still covered in metal, finally noticed the group in the corner.

He knelt outside the Diamond Sand Cover and begged.

Seeing the people inside remain unmoved, he angrily formed a Gold Blade and tried to destroy the cover.

Despite looking like it was only a thin layer of fine sand, the Gold Blade’s attack was completely ineffective against the cover.

"Let you in? Just so you can cause trouble for us?" Adrian Shaw said coldly.

He had just seen this man kill several people for the slightest chance of survival.

Nina Jacobs had no intention of saving anyone from the very beginning.

The people outside were quickly devoured by the swarm of bats, leaving behind nothing but blood-stained skeletons.

Seeing that their "food" was gone, the bats turned their attention to the group in the corner.

They swarmed toward the Diamond Sand Cover all at once!

"Aargh!!"

Even though his body was encased in a layer of metal, the ferocious bats still managed to tear at the man’s flesh.

The outside of the Diamond Sand Cover was plastered with a dense layer of bats. Nina Jacobs looked up at them, a strange feeling stirring within her.

"This is too brutal, too disgusting." Jessica Vance could no longer bear to look at the bats’ sharp fangs, even though she knew Nina Jacobs’s sand cover was incredibly sturdy.

ZZZT!

Adrian Shaw coated the Diamond Sand Cover with his Thunder Element Superpower, and a portion of the bats instantly dropped to the ground.

"We can’t let them fly up," Adrian Shaw said. "Even though this cliff bottom is far from the Bishop Clan, it’ll be trouble if this many bats fly up and start hurting people."

However, before he could launch a second attack, the bats outside the cover, as if following some command, all flew back into the cave.

"What... what’s going on?"

The group watched the scene in shock.

"Do you think they realized they couldn’t get anything from us, so they left?" Jessica Vance’s intuition told her this was the case.

"There’s another possibility," Nina Jacobs said.

"What possibility?" Shirley Lucas immediately asked.

"Do you remember what those people who went in earlier said?"

Nina Jacobs had clearly heard one of them use "it" to describe what they saw.

Another had said, "The path ahead is blocked by that thing."

"In other words, they didn’t just see these bats. There must be something big in there too," Nina Jacobs said.

’Something big enough to block the path.’

’And the reason these smaller bats are so abnormally ferocious and their movements so coordinated is likely because they’re being commanded by a "big one" inside.’

"Commanded?"

A cold sweat broke out on everyone.

’Something that can command tens of thousands of bats at once?’

"Maybe we should just seal this place up..." Leo Hale said, feeling a sense of dread.

Besides, it was about to get dark.

"I’m afraid it’s too late. Bats are nocturnal."

Nina Jacobs’s Five Senses Enhancement could already pick up an unusual sound from within the cave.

She suspected that the flesh and blood of the people who went inside had awakened something that was sleeping in there.

Even if they used their Superpowers to block the cave entrance now, it would be pointless.

"Then let’s fight. I’d like to see just what’s in there," Adrian Shaw said.

"It’s coming!"

The words had barely left their lips when they all felt their ears start to ring.

"What’s... going on?

This feels awful!"

Beckett Abbott clutched his ears.

There was no deafening noise, yet he felt as if his eardrums were about to burst!

And he wasn’t the only one; the others felt the same way.

"It might be a Sound Wave Attack, one of the ways bats can attack," Chase Gallagher said with difficulty.

A Sound Wave Attack isn’t necessarily audible, but humans can still feel it.

With such high Attack Power, prolonged exposure would cause physical trauma.

"Chase, Jessica, use Wind Element to interfere."

Nina Jacobs had Shirley Lucas take some soundproof earplugs out of her space. While they might not block the effect completely, everyone felt much more comfortable after putting them in.

Chase Gallagher and Jessica Vance attacked in unison, unleashing one gust of wind after another toward the cave entrance.

"It’s working!" Chase Gallagher exclaimed in pleasant surprise.

Sound waves are affected by uneven airflow; a strong current can significantly attenuate the medium through which they travel.

"It seems the thing inside is pretty smart," Nina Jacobs said with a cold smile.

She stepped right out of the Diamond Sand Cover, her Superpower surging in her hands.

Dazzling orange-yellow flames roiled and formed into several Fire Serpents. In an instant, the Fire Serpents shot into the cave like arrows loosed from a bow!

BOOM!

The massive wave of fire seemed to collide with something, and a huge roar echoed from within the cave.

It was followed by a strong, acrid smell of something burning.

SCREEE!!

An incredibly piercing shriek suddenly rang out.

A figure flew out of the cave. By the fading, deep blue twilight, the group could finally see what it was.

The creature was as tall as a person, and from a distance, it looked like a standing human.

But when it spread its massive wings, they could see that it was actually a giant, humanoid bat!

It bared its fangs and shot toward Nina Jacobs at high speed!

At the same time, all the bats that had just flown back into the cave swarmed out again.

"Don’t any of you come out!" Nina Jacobs commanded Wayne Warner and the others who were about to rush out.

She didn’t need backup for now.

BOOM!

A towering curtain of fire rose up in front of her, and Nina Jacobs once again used Diamond Sand to form a separate Diamond Sand Cover for herself.

The dark swarm of small bats plunged into the curtain of fire and was instantly incinerated.

Seeing this, the humanoid bat changed direction and flew another way.

’The biggest drawback of the Diamond Sand Cover right now is that I can’t move it freely,’ Nina Jacobs thought.

’But its advantages are also obvious.’

BANG!

The humanoid bat’s wings had evolved to possess immense strength. When it slammed into the cover with all its might, the others still inside the other Diamond Sand Cover couldn’t help but break into a sweat for Nina Jacobs.

However, the Diamond Sand Cover around Nina Jacobs didn’t budge an inch.

SHINK!

Sharp spikes that had emerged from the outside of the cover pierced the humanoid bat’s wings. It opened its mouth wide and shrieked at Nina Jacobs.

The shriek became silent after a moment of ringing, yet it felt as if it would pierce their eardrums.

BOOM!

The outside of the cover was engulfed in a thick layer of fire. Nina Jacobs endured the discomfort, rapidly manipulating her two Superpowers from within the cover.

The heat wave began to roil in the opposite direction. The humanoid bat tried to break free, but its wings were pinned firmly to the Diamond Sand Cover by several more Stone Spikes that had shot out.

Amidst its screams, the wave of fire outside the cover suddenly split into two, like opening petals, enveloping the humanoid bat from the left and right.
